#8 Matthias Kyburz’s Countdown to the NY Marathon – staying healthy

8 days left until the start of the New York Marathon!
We’re thrilled to follow Matthias in these final days leading up to the New York Marathon! The excitement is building — can he take running.COACH into the top 10 on the world’s biggest marathon stage?

As Matthias Kyburz continues his countdown, today’s focus is on a key part of every marathon build-up: regeneration and staying healthy.

When it comes to recovery during the tapering phase, Matthias keeps things simple and consistent. “I don’t do anything I haven’t already done during my preparation,” he explains. “I go to physiotherapy once or twice, make sure I get enough sleep, and most importantly, I avoid filling the extra time from reduced training with other physically demanding activities.”

And how does he make sure he stays healthy before race day? “There’s no secret formula,” says Kyburz. “I eat a balanced diet — one apple a day — and I make sure to get enough sleep. I also take Echinaforce to support my immune system.”

He admits to being a bit more careful than usual during this period — paying extra attention to hygiene and avoiding large crowds when possible. “My daughter still goes to daycare and I continue to use public transport as usual,” he adds. “There’s no absolute guarantee to stay healthy, but I try to approach it in a relaxed way rather than being overly anxious about it — that’s worked well for me so far.”
