3 days left until the start of the New York Marathon!
We’re thrilled to follow Matthias in these final days leading up to the New York Marathon! The excitement is building — can he take running.COACH into the top 10 on the world’s biggest marathon stage?
Today’s focus: travel day
Travel and Arrival Routine
Matthias is travelling to New York on Thursday — just three days before the race. “There’s no real need for long acclimatisation,” he explains. “Jet lag is, of course, a topic, and the adjustment time is short. But travelling west is manageable for me. Since I don’t have much to do on-site and shouldn’t be sightseeing too much before the race, an earlier arrival would only serve to fight jet lag. Plus, travelling on Thursday lets me spend Wednesday at home with my daughter — my ‘dad day’.”
When it comes to long trips, Matthias has a clear travel routine. “I make sure to move around regularly and stretch my legs. I usually wear compression socks, drink plenty of fluids, and eat enough. I also try to adjust to the new daily rhythm as quickly as possible.”
And once he lands in New York? It’s all about keeping things light and simple. “I’ll go for an easy 30-minute jog on arrival day,” he says. “After that, I’ll get a first overview of the area — what’s where — and probably do a small grocery run to stock up on essentials.”
