1 day left until the start of the New York Marathon!
The countdown is almost over — tomorrow, Matthias Kyburz will take on the streets of New York! Can he take running.COACH into the top 10 on the world’s biggest marathon stage?
Today’s topic: Do’s and Don’ts on the day before the race.
Do’s and Don’ts — The Day Before the Marathon
When it comes to the final 24 hours, Matthias Kyburz knows that less is more. “I try to avoid doing too much,” he explains. “There are often a lot of things happening before a race — media appointments, photo shoots, logistics — but the goal is to avoid spending too much time standing around or walking. The day before the marathon can be ‘boring’ — but that’s exactly how it should be. The excitement will come soon enough.”
Instead, Matthias focuses on staying calm and keeping his body and mind in balance. “For me, it’s about recovering well, eating plenty and properly, and finding a good mix between rest and light activity. Staying relaxed and giving space to the anticipation is important too,” he says. “We’ll also go through the final tactical discussions before the big day.”
